Formulation: Tablets
WHO Class: I
Fumiphos is used to control eggs and/or larvae, pupae and/or adults of the following stored product pests: Angoumois grain moth, bean weevil, cadelle, cigarette beetle, coffee bean weevil, confused flour beetle, dried fruit beetles, flat grain beetles, granary weevil, Indian meal moth, lesser grain borer, maize weevil, Mediterranean flour moth, merchant grain beetle, mottled grain moth, psocids, raisin moth, red legged ham beetle, rice weevil, rust-red flour beetle, saw-toothed grain beetle, skin & hide beetles, stored product mites, tobacco moth, tropical warehouse moth, warehouse beetle. Treatment for the above pests at the specified rates will kill any cockroaches, small verminous mammals such as moles, rabbits, Ground Squirrels, Pocket Gophers, Prairie Dogs, Woodchucks, Yellowbelly Marmots, Voles, Roof Rats, Mice, Chipmunks, Norway Ratsand rodents.
Fumiphos is an Insecticide and rodenticide which is a respiratory, metabolic and nerve poison. Evolves a non-flammable mixture of phosphine (the toxicant), ammonia and carbon dioxide.
Biochemistry: Mitochondrial complex IV electron transport inhibitor.
RESTRAINTS:
- DO NOT use when commodity temperature is less than 15°c and/or the relative humidity within the structure is less than 25% and/or with raw cereal grains, where moisture content is less than 9%.
- DO NOT FUMIGATE IN INHABITED BUILDINGS.
- DO NOT use on any commodity, empty containers, railcars or vessels that are in transit or likely to be in transit during exposure or ventilation.
- DO NOT heap Tablets.
- DO NOT apply as a surface-only treatment in a structure whose height exceeds twice its width.
| Commodity | Structure/Enclosure | Application (see+) | Minimum Exposure Period | |
| BASIC RATE (to phosphine /m²) | DOSAGE No. of tablets | |||
| Raw cereal grains (such as barley, maize, millet, oats, rice, rye, sorghum, triticale, wheat) and other period food commodities (such as flour and other milled cereal products, Bulk stock feeds Flaw cereal (such as barley, maize, millet, oats, rice, rye, sorhum, triticale, break fast cereals, dired ruts, dried vegetables, peanuts, oilseeds, cocoa beans); and seeds for propagation and bulk stock feeds. | All well-sealed structures (See) | 1.5 | 3 per 2 m³ | a) 10 days when temperature is 15° to 25°C; 7 days when temperature is above 25°C b) 20 days for surface only application in structures greater than 375 m’capacity (eg. 300 tonnes grain) |
Small structures/ enclosures of less than 300 tonnes [375m³) which cannot be well sealed:
| 5 2.5 | 3 per 2 m³ 5 per 2 m³ | ||
| Stored Tobacco | Bales, hogsheads, cases in well-sealed fumigation enclosures | 1.5 | 3 per 2 m³ | 7 days |
| Well-sealed empty warehouses, elevators, stores. etc. | 1.5 | 3 per 2 m³ | 10 days when temperature is 15°C to 25°C; 7 days when temperature is above 25°C | |
Fumigation chambers: well-sealed silos and sheds or buildings and other fumigation enclosures made gas-tight with gas-proof sheeting. Phosphine application rates are based on the internal volume of the structures to be fumigated, they apply equally to full or partly-tilled or empty structures and they apply to all commodities. Commodity equivalent rates (g/tonnes) should only be used when the commodity stowage factor is known; they apply only when the storage structures are full or nearly full or when part-filled structures are dosed on the tonnage equivalent of their internal volume. The calculated commodity equivalent dosage must be based on the rate per volume.
Minimum exposure periods should start from the time of completion of application eg. The time taken to fill a storage with grain dosed with Aluminum Fumiphos TABLETS is not part of the exposure period.
NB: Fumiphos tablets, are Restricted Use Pesticides due to the acute inhalation toxicity of phosphine gas.
This product is toxic to fish, birds and other wild life. Keep away from water bodies. Do not apply where runoff is likely to get into water. Do not contaminate water when cleaning equipment or disposing off wastes. This product is toxic to bees when they are exposed to direct application. Time application to coincide with periods of minimum bee activity.
- For retail sale to dealers and certified applicators only.
- Remember: exposure periods recommended in the table are minimum periods and may not be, adequate to control all stored products pests under all conditions nor will they always provide for total reaction of Al-Phos tablets.
